Indonesia promotes sustainability through coffee culture and waste repurposing
In Indonesia, a growing coffee culture is being leveraged to promote environmental sustainability. A survey by GoodStats in October 2024 revealed that 71% of Indonesians prefer purchasing coffee from coffee shops rather than brewing it at home, signaling that coffee consumption has become a significant lifestyle trend.
To address the environmental impact of this habit, the 'Kampanye Indonesia Asri' initiative has launched the 'Jejak Asri Hobbies' program. Through a manual brew coffee workshop held with Kopi Nako, the campaign aims to teach participants about circular economy practices, such as managing materials and repurposing coffee grounds.
Additionally, small-scale sustainable practices like creating vertical gardens from used plastic bottles are being encouraged as practical ways to manage plastic waste and improve home environments.
