Indonesia provides support for students and teachers in Sukoharjo
The Indonesian Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) is coordinating with the Central Java Provincial Government to provide assistance to 11 female students and four teachers at the Hamalatul Qur’an Islamic boarding school in Sukoharjo, Central Java.
Minister Arifah Fauzi stated that the ministry is working with local protection units to monitor the condition of those affected and ensure their rights and dignity are respected during legal processes. The ministry emphasized the need for psychological support to prevent re-traumatization and urged all parties to maintain the privacy and identity of the victims to avoid social stigma.
Additionally, Muhammadiyah leaders, including Busyro Muqoddas, have pledged legal and psychological aid. The Muhammadiyah Legal Aid and Public Advocacy Institute (LBH AP) visited the pesantren to clarify reports regarding police conduct during the handling of the case. Local Muhammadiyah branches are also preparing to facilitate health and psychological services through professional medical staff.
