Indonesia and Australia Deepen Sustainable Forestry Cooperation
Indonesia and Australia have agreed to strengthen bilateral forestry cooperation, concentrating on timber legality, sustainable forest‑product trade and the protection of forest ecosystems. The deal was announced by Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry and was discussed on the sidelines of the 30th APEC Experts Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade meeting in Shenzhen, China.
Krisdianto, a director at Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry, said the partnership aims to improve forest governance, build mutual trust in internationally traded forest products and support transparent, accountable forest management. The two sides also reviewed ongoing collaboration under the Australia‑Indonesia Working Group on Forestry and explored deeper cooperation in sustainable forest management, forest protection, law enforcement, human‑resource development and multilateral forums.
Indonesia highlighted a plan to establish the World Mangrove Center as a global platform for scientific research, knowledge exchange and capacity building on mangrove conservation, underscoring the broader goal of regional environmental partnership.
