Indonesia Creative Economy Pushes Design Week, Shopping Festival and Transmigration Projects
Indonesia's Ministry of Creative Economy, led by Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya, is advancing several high‑profile initiatives in 2026. The government confirmed that Indonesia Design Week will be held from 18 – 27 September 2026, aiming to link local designers with global markets. At the same time, the Indonesia Shopping Festival (ISF) is slated for 7 – 23 August 2026 across 407 malls, with a transaction target of Rp38 trillion, up from Rp25 trillion the previous year.
The ministry highlighted the creative sector's economic impact: creative‑economy output contributed 6.8 % of GDP, surpassing the 5.5 % target; export performance reached 120 % of its goal, accounting for about 12 % of non‑oil exports; and investment realised 134 % of the set target, amounting to Rp183.01 trillion in 2025. A separate Patriot Expedition 2026 team comprising 1,476 academics and 1,230 young talents will map creative‑economy potential in transmigration areas to guide policy and regional development.
Additional efforts include promoting Indonesian culinary products abroad through the S'RASA program and encouraging intellectual‑property protection for creators in East Java. Together, these programs are positioned as engines for job creation, export growth, and broader economic diversification.
