Indonesia pushes domestic products into Saudi Hajj supply chain

The Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is working to integrate domestic products into the supply chain for pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. During the opening of the MSME Expo and the National Grand Hajj Ritual Training Kick-Off in Madiun, Minister Mochamad Irfan Yusuf emphasized that strengthening the Hajj economic ecosystem is a key part of the government's agenda to provide economic benefits to Indonesian citizens.

A primary focus is the food sector. The government aims to supply Indonesian products to meet the consumption needs of pilgrims in the Holy Land. To date, the government has realized an initial export of 2,280 tons of rice for the 2026 Hajj requirements, with plans to send an additional 3,300 tons via sea routes. However, challenges remain, including strict Saudi Arabian regulations, high logistics costs, and geopolitical situations affecting international shipping.

To support small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the ministry has launched the ‘Hajj and Umrah Store’ platform. This digital tool is designed to connect Indonesian businesses directly with the needs of Hajj and Umrah organizers in Saudi Arabia, facilitating broader market access for local goods.
