Indonesia secures FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final spot after 9-2 win
Indonesia has secured a place in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final following a dramatic 9-2 victory over Bangladesh at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. The win allowed Indonesia to finish as Group A leaders, edging out Malaysia on goal productivity. While both teams finished with seven points, Indonesia's 11 goals scored surpassed Malaysia's nine.
Mitchell Baker was the standout performer, scoring five goals during the match. Other scorers included Rizky Ridho, Justin Hubner, Luke Vickery, and Kevin Diks, who netted a crucial goal during stoppage time to help seal the win. Bangladesh coach Thomas Dooley noted the gap in quality and physical presence between the two sides.
Indonesia will face Thailand in the final, which is scheduled for Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta. Thailand secured their spot earlier by defeating Vietnam 2-0.
