Indonesia records over 85 kg methamphetamine seizure and uncovers airport drug smuggling

The East Java Police Narcotics Division (Ditresnarkoba) reported uncovering 3,157 drug cases from January to June 2026, leading to 4,061 suspects. Seized items included 85.66 kg of methamphetamine, 22.22 kg of cocaine, 10 kg of methamphetamine, 82.44 kg of cannabis and millions of illegal pills. Director Kombes Muhammad Kurniawan said, “There is a 4.54 % increase in cases and a 4.91 % rise in suspects compared with the same period in 2025.”

Customs, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and police jointly dismantled three smuggling attempts at Soekarno‑Hatta Airport between March and June 2026. The first operation seized 10,785 g of marijuana hidden in luggage from the United States bound for Bali. Subsequent raids intercepted passengers on domestic flights carrying illicit substances, highlighting ongoing interdiction efforts at Indonesia’s main gateway.
