Indonesia removes 7,908 fraudulent overseas job advertisements
Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), in collaboration with the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), has removed 7,908 fraudulent digital contents advertising fake overseas job vacancies. These enforcement actions were carried out by cyber patrol teams between January and August 2026.
Minister Meutya Hafid stated that these fraudulent job advertisements pose a serious threat to the public and are linked to the risk of human trafficking. Data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) indicates that human trafficking cases related to online scams in Southeast Asia rose significantly from 296 in 2022 to 978 in 2023, before dropping to 492 in 2024.
The government has urged job seekers to verify information through official channels and report suspicious content via the aduankonten.id portal.
