Sexual abuse allegations emerge against coach in Surabaya and a religious leader in Semarang, Indonesia
In Surabaya, a minor athlete in shooting and hunting alleges that his coach subjected him to physical punishment and sexual molestation. The victim posted a handwritten account on Instagram, describing how the coach first disciplined him for mishandling equipment, then touched his waist, hugged him from behind and kissed his hair.
In Semarang, police say a 56‑year‑old man who posed as a habib and worked at a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) raped eight female students over more than a year. Identified only by the initials AJS, he allegedly used his false religious credentials to gain access to the girls and committed the assaults between June 2023 and November 2024. Authorities have disclosed the case after a media briefing.
Both cases highlight ongoing concerns about sexual abuse of minors by authority figures in Indonesia.
