BNPB issues eight preparedness steps for 2026/2027 rainy season
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has issued Circular Letter Number 4 of 2026, outlining eight strategic preparedness steps for local governments to face the 2026/2027 rainy season. Signed by BNPB Head Letjen TNI Kristomei Sianturi, the directive instructs governors, regents, and mayors across Indonesia to mitigate risks of hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, landslides, strong winds, and high waves.
The eight steps include mapping disaster-prone areas using tools like InaRISK and the Indonesian Disaster Information Data (DIBI) portal, preparing personnel and logistics through readiness drills, monitoring weather information, strengthening early warning systems, and conducting community education. Local governments are also urged to ensure emergency response posts operate 24 hours a day and to optimize the use of Ready-to-Use Funds (DSP) when emergency statuses are declared.
This proactive measure follows predictions from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) that most of Indonesia will enter the rainy season between late 2026 and early 2027. While some regions may experience a delayed start and shorter duration, the potential for extreme weather remains a significant concern for national safety and property protection.
