Indonesia rice harvest area reaches 9.46 million hectares

Indonesia's rice harvest area reached an estimated 9.46 million hectares between January and September 2026, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). This represents a 0.11 percent increase compared to the 9.45 million hectares recorded during the same period in 2025.

In the Seram Bagian Timur (SBT) Regency of Maluku, a five-hectare paddy field in Aki Jaya Village recently completed its first harvest. SBT Regent Fachri Husni Alkatiri stated that this successful harvest demonstrates the region's significant potential for food crop development. The initiative was supported by local government, agricultural extension workers, and security forces (TNI-Polri).

The national increase in harvest area is attributed to changes in planting patterns, the optimization of previously unproductive land, and the use of modern agricultural machinery, such as combine harvesters, to improve efficiency.
