Indonesia school immunization program reports high coverage
The Bulan Imunisasi Anak Sekolah (BIAS) program is being implemented across various regions in Indonesia to increase health protection for elementary school students. In Bone, SD Inpres 10/73 Mappesangka is conducting immunization sessions for students in grades 1, 2, and 5. School officials have expressed full support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of parental awareness to ensure children are protected from preventable diseases.
In Gunungkidul, the BIAS program has achieved significant coverage, exceeding the initial 95% target. As of late August 2026, vaccination rates for grade 1 students (MR vaccine) reached 96.8%, grade 2 students (Td vaccine) reached 96.3%, and grade 5 students (HPV vaccine) reached 97.3%. Despite these high numbers, the Gunungkidul Health Office is continuing sweep operations through local community health centers (Puskesmas) to reach any remaining unvaccinated students.
