Indonesia secures US$103 million in climate funding for emission reductions
Indonesia has secured approximately US$103.78 million (Rp1.85 trillion) in Results-Based Payment (RBP) funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for its achievements in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. This funding, which represents a reduction of 20.25 million tons of CO2 equivalent, is managed by the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH).
As part of the RBP REDD+ GCF Output 2 project, Indonesia has committed Rp761.02 billion to various provinces. Currently, 34 provinces have accessed this funding, with 10 additional provinces entering the implementation phase following recent evaluations. The project aims to create an integrated ecosystem for greenhouse gas emission reductions through sustainable financing, including carbon trading and performance-based payments.
Since August 2023, BPDLH has distributed over Rp500 billion to support initiatives such as social forestry expansion covering more than 2 million hectares, facilitating customary forest designations, and strengthening community fire care groups. The program is designed to bridge economic development with environmental sustainability through green development financing.
