Indonesia seeks non-permanent UN Security Council seat for 2029–2030

Indonesia has officially announced its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2029–2030 term. The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Sugiono during the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.

Sugiono stated that Indonesia’s candidacy is driven by a commitment to strengthen unity and advance global peace through dialogue and the enforcement of international law. He emphasized that Indonesia aims to rebuild trust in the multilateral system and transform shared responsibilities into effective cooperation. The bid aligns with Indonesia’s foreign policy principles of maintaining relations with all parties while ensuring space for cooperation.

Indonesia’s mandate to contribute to international peace and justice is rooted in its constitution, and the nation has a long history of involvement in UN peacekeeping missions dating back to 1957.
