Indonesia sees surge in crypto transactions and tokenized asset interest

Indonesia is seeing significant growth in digital asset activities. Data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) shows that crypto asset trading transactions reached Rp171.12 trillion between January and July 2026, with consumer accounts totaling 22.93 million.

Parallel to this, the global market for tokenized stocks is expanding. According to CoinGecko Research, the market capitalization for tokenized stocks reached $486.69 million by March 31, 2026, up from $2.09 million in June 2025. While spot trading volume in the first quarter of 2026 hit $15.12 billion, this remains a small fraction of traditional financial markets.

In response to these developments, the OJK is preparing a draft regulation (RPOJK) regarding the offering of tokenized real-world assets (RWA). This framework will cover asset criteria, licensing, consumer protection, and financial reporting mechanisms. Additionally, seven participants have successfully completed OJK's regulatory sandbox testing as of August 2026, covering areas such as gold tokenization and property ownership benefits.
