Indonesia sees surge in gastronomic tourism led by Bali
Gastronomic tourism is experiencing significant growth in Indonesia, with Bali emerging as the primary driver of this trend. According to data from Airbnb, ‘Food & Drink’ has become the fastest-growing category among Airbnb Experiences in the country, ranking as the third most popular category behind Nature and History & Culture.
Bali accounts for more than 90% of all culinary experience bookings in Indonesia. These experiences maintain a high average rating of 4.94, with travelers frequently describing them as authentic, traditional, and family-oriented.
The trend is also impacting accommodation preferences, as searches for Airbnb listings with kitchen amenities in Indonesia have increased by more than 20% year-on-year. This suggests travelers are increasingly seeking stays that allow them to prepare meals and engage with local flavors.
