Indonesia ramps up preparations for 2026 Asian Games

As the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya approach, Indonesia is intensifying preparations across various sporting disciplines and increasing financial support. The government has increased the budget for national training centers (Pelatnas) to Rp222 billion, a significant rise from the initial Rp81 billion, to ensure athletes are fully prepared. Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir confirmed the funds would be disbursed quickly to various sports federations.

In weightlifting, the Indonesian Weightlifting Association (PB PABSI) has set a target of four medals from an eight-athlete squad. The roster includes notable lifters such as Olympic gold medalist Rizki Juniansyah and defending Asian Games champion Rahmat Erwin Abdullah.

The soft tennis national team is also in the final stages of training after conducting international trials in South Korea, with a target of two silver medals. Meanwhile, in football, several clubs are engaging in preseason activities, including Sabah FC participating in the Dewata Challenge Series in Bali, and Persik Kediri preparing for a tournament in Malaysia.
