Indonesia state budget reports Rp115.8 trillion in social assistance spending

Indonesia's Ministry of Finance reported that social assistance (bansos) spending reached Rp115.8 trillion as of September 30, 2026. This represents 71.2 percent of the state budget (APBN) allocation and marks a 2.7 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Key components of this spending include Rp21.8 trillion for the Family Hope Program (PKH) benefiting 10 million families, and Rp28.2 trillion for the Food Card Program (Kartu Sembako) supporting 17.6 million recipients. In the education sector, Rp11.1 trillion was distributed through the Program Indonesia Pintar (PIP) for 16 million students, while Rp14.4 trillion was allocated for KIP Kuliah to support 878,000 university students.

Additionally, the state budget recorded a deficit of Rp319 trillion, or 1.24 percent of GDP, through the end of September 2026. Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara stated that the deficit is “on track,” noting that the budget was designed to allow state spending to exceed revenue to support purchasing power and economic growth. The government also drew Rp494.3 trillion in new debt during this period, reaching 59.4 percent of the annual target.
