Indonesia launches 2026 National Risk Assessments to combat financial crime
The Indonesian government has launched the 2026 National Risk Assessments (NRA) covering money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of weapons of mass destruction proliferation. These assessments serve as a fundamental tool to meet the standards of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and prepare for the Mutual Evaluation Review (MER) scheduled for 2029-2030.
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, emphasized that the NRA is designed to shift Indonesia from a reactive to a preventive approach. He noted that evolving geopolitical fragmentation, digital technology, virtual assets, and artificial intelligence have blurred the lines between conventional and digital crimes, requiring more sophisticated network analysis and cross-border cooperation.
PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana stated that the NRA provides the foundation for policy, supervision, and law enforcement. Maintaining high standards is critical to preventing Indonesia from being placed on high-risk jurisdiction lists, which could negatively impact international investment, cross-border transactions, and access to the global financial system.
