Indonesia strengthens maritime navigation safety with IALA
The Indonesian Directorate General of Sea Transportation is strengthening maritime safety through enhanced cooperation with the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA). This initiative focuses on improving the reliability of navigation systems to meet both national and international standards.
Key efforts include the provision and upgrading of Aids to Navigation (SBNP), optimization of Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), development of shipping lanes, and the updating of nautical charts. The collaboration, which extends through 2028, includes technical missions across navigation districts and human resource competency training via the IALA Academy. A pilot project will involve a risk assessment workshop for the West Surabaya Shipping Lane using the Simplified IALA Risk Assessment Method (SIRA).
