Indonesia strengthens maritime tourism safety standards

The Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) has partnered with PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI), PT Jasaraharja Putera, and PT Reasuransi Indonesia Utama to enhance safety standards and risk management for Indonesia’s tourism vessels.

Signed during the INSA Yacht Festival (IYF) 2026 in Benoa, Bali, the Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) aim to integrate ship classification, technical risk control, and insurance protection into a single management ecosystem. BKI is implementing specific notations for tourism vessels to improve national classification standards and will provide technical studies, risk assessments, and human resource certification.

Industry leaders stated that these improved safety standards are intended to make operational risks more measurable, potentially leading to more competitive insurance premiums and fostering a safer, more sustainable maritime tourism sector to boost visitor numbers.
