Indonesia Ministry of Transportation intensifies safety checks for holiday season
The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation has initiated comprehensive safety inspections across all transport modes to prepare for the 2026 Christmas and 2027 New Year holiday period. Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has ordered ramp checks for land, sea, air, and rail transport to ensure operational readiness and passenger safety.
Specifically, the Directorate General of Sea Transportation is conducting seaworthiness tests on 2,140 vessels throughout November 2026. This fleet includes 511 passenger ships, 460 Ro-Ro crossing vessels, 821 tourist boats, and 123 high-speed crafts. Inspections will cover crew competency, loading, safety equipment, and pollution prevention.
To support holiday mobility, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) announced it will waive 100 percent of port service fees for certain passengers and vehicle classes at 14 ports across seven routes. Additionally, authorities are working to manage transportation-related inflation and optimize routes and ticket availability to ensure connectivity and affordability during the peak travel season.
