Indonesia Supreme Court rejects Kerry Riza corruption appeal
The Indonesian Supreme Court has rejected the cassation appeal filed by Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza regarding a corruption case involving the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina (Persero). Kerry Riza, the beneficial owner of PT Orbit Terminal Merak, faces an 18-year prison sentence.
While the Supreme Court rejected the appeal, the panel of judges made revisions to the provisions concerning the replacement money (uang pengganti) that must be paid. The exact amount of the revised replacement money has not yet been publicly clarified.
Previously, the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Kerry Riza to 15 years in prison, a fine of 1 billion rupiah, and a replacement payment of 2.9 trillion rupiah. The High Court of DKI Jakarta had upheld the prison sentence during the appeal process. If the replacement money is not paid, Kerry faces an additional five years of imprisonment.
