Indonesia surpasses medal target at 2026 Asian Games
Indonesia concluded the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with a total of 39 medals, consisting of five gold, 11 silver, and 23 bronze. This performance exceeded the target of four gold medals set by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Despite the medal haul, Indonesia finished 16th in the final standings, a lower ranking than its 12th-place finish at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Chef de Mission Todotua Pasaribu noted that the ranking was affected by changes in the competition program, as several events that previously yielded gold for Indonesia were not contested this year.
Several athletes achieved historic milestones during the games. Weightlifter Rahmat Erwin set a new world record in the 75-kilogram class, and sport climber Desak Made established an Asian record in the women's speed event. In badminton, the Indonesian men's team secured gold, ending a 28-year wait for the title. Additionally, Nurisa Dian Ashrifa earned Indonesia's first-ever Asian Games gold medal in archery.
China emerged as the overall champion of the games, securing 169 gold, 89 silver, and 83 bronze medals.
