Indonesia Announces 432-Athlete Delegation for 2026 Asian Games
Indonesia will send 432 athletes to compete in 35 sports at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi‑Nagoya, Japan, from 19 September to 4 October. The contingent will be supported by 148 coaches and officials and 32 members of the Chef de Mission team. KOI chair Raja Sapta Oktohari said the athletes were selected after rigorous evaluation by the Youth and Sports Ministry and national federations. Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir set a realistic target of four gold medals for the Games and noted that boxing, fencing and table tennis will participate on a self‑funded basis.
The Indonesian Taekwondo Federation (PBTI) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) are co‑hosting the 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships in Jakarta from 1–5 August 2026. The World Taekwondo G2 event will feature 478 athletes from 36 countries and serve as a ranking‑point opportunity for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Taekwondo athlete Andi Sultan Altaf Mirza is focusing on improving his recognized poomsae routine ahead of the Asian Games.
