Indonesia targets 1 million household gas connections by 2028
The Indonesian Presidential Staff Office (KSP) has set a target to complete the construction of 1 million household gas networks (jargas) by 2028. This initiative is part of the National Priority Program under President Prabowo Subianto, aimed at achieving energy self-sufficiency and reducing the nation's reliance on LPG imports, which currently account for approximately 80 percent of national demand.
For the 2025-2026 period, the government aims to establish 119,379 household connections across 15 regencies and cities. In East Java, the Gresik and Sidoarjo regencies have been allocated 7,363 and 7,223 connections, respectively.
In the Menganti district of Gresik, construction for 7,363 connections across six villages has been completed and is awaiting operation. Local officials expect the transition from LPG cylinders to piped natural gas to lower energy costs for residents and provide more efficient, affordable energy for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) involved in sectors such as food production and metal industries.
