Indonesia targets 5 million green jobs by 2029

Indonesian Manpower Minister Yassierli stated that the transition to electric vehicles and renewable energy is creating new opportunities for green jobs. To support this shift, Indonesia aims to have between 5.01 and 5.32 million green workers by 2029.

Minister Yassierli emphasized that technological advancement must be matched by workforce readiness. Specific competencies required include electric vehicle technicians, solar power installation, charging station operation, maintenance, and occupational health and safety (K3).

To meet these needs, the government is focusing on vocational training that aligns with industry requirements. This includes involving industries in curriculum development, instructor provision, and certification. The government has also allocated Rp1.7 trillion (approximately US$96 million) to train 270,000 workers for green jobs this year.
