Indonesia targets US$521B sports industry to boost growth

Indonesia is targeting the development of its sports industry to drive national economic growth, with an estimated investment potential of US$521 billion (approximately Rp8,000 trillion).

Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) have signed a memorandum of understanding to synergize risk-based business licensing and investment development within the sector. The initiative aims to create more effective licensing services and expand opportunities across various sports-related fields, including sports tourism.

Minister Rosan noted that the industry's impact extends beyond hosting cities to the broader economy, including tourism. Under Government Regulation No. 28 of 2025, the Online Single Submission (OSS) system is authorized to automatically issue permits if approvals from other ministries are not received within agreed service level agreements. Minister of State Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir added that the sports industry is growing at approximately 8 percent annually.
