Indonesia targets 71,744 schools for 2026 revitalization

The Indonesian government has outlined its 2026 school revitalization strategy, focusing on three priority categories: institutions damaged by natural disasters, severely damaged facilities, and schools located in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions. Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti stated that the program aims to reach tens of thousands of facilities nationwide, with a target of revitalizing 71,744 educational units throughout 2026. The government is utilizing a self-management system to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and involve local labor and materials.

In Malang Regency, the program has faced questions regarding transparency. Vice Regent Lathifah Shohib reported that she has not yet received the official list or the total number of schools in the district designated to receive central government funding for these revitalization projects. She indicated plans to seek confirmation from the Head of the Malang Regency Education Office to ensure local authorities have clear data to provide to the public.
