Indonesia implements new strategic commodity export governance

Indonesia is implementing significant changes to its strategic commodity export governance, centered on the role of PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI). Starting January 1, 2027, DSI will act as the sole intermediary for the export of coal, crude palm oil (CPO), and ferroalloys. DSI officials clarified that the company will not act as a buyer or take ownership of goods; instead, it will focus on transparency and accountability by verifying trade data, prices, and contracts through its NADI portal to prevent transfer pricing and under-invoicing.

Trade Minister Budi Santoso emphasized that exporters remain responsible for fulfilling Domestic Market Obligations (DMO) and managing commercial negotiations with international buyers. This regulatory shift coincides with a push for downstreaming, with the government targeting a 90 percent share of processed plantation products in future exports to reduce reliance on raw materials.

In related economic developments, the government has expanded the list of countries eligible for relaxed natural resource export proceeds (DHE SDA) placement requirements to include South Korea, Japan, and the European Union. Additionally, the number of designated foreign exchange banks for these placements has increased to 16, with PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk being the latest addition.
