Indonesia implements economic measures for Rupiah stability and energy transition

Indonesia is implementing several strategic economic measures to ensure stability and growth. The Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) has decided to maintain deposit guarantee rates: 3.75% for Rupiah in commercial banks, 6.25% for Rupiah in rural banks, and 2.00% for foreign currency deposits, effective October 1, 2026, through January 31, 2027.

To stabilize the Rupiah, which depreciated by 7.74% between January and September 2026, Bank Indonesia (BI) is coordinating with the government to improve the current account structure. BI is also utilizing hedging incentives, such as Swaps and Domestic Non-Deliverable Forwards (DNDF), to attract foreign investors to Rupiah-based assets.

On the energy front, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto is pushing for a revision of the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) to accommodate a target of 100 GWp of solar power. Additionally, the government aims to designate sites for nuclear power plants (PLTN) by 2026 or 2027.

Economic growth is also being driven by mineral downstreaming policies, which aim to transform raw mineral exports into high-value industrial products. These initiatives, alongside green economy developments, are projected to potentially boost national economic growth by 2-3%.
