Indonesia targets global carbon markets through regulatory reform

Indonesia is working to expand its carbon industry's reach into global markets, targeting both voluntary and compliance carbon markets. This expansion is supported by international cooperation through the Article 6 framework of the Paris Agreement, including partnerships with South Korea.

Heppy Trenggono, founder of VCarboN, noted that while Indonesia possesses significant nature-based carbon assets, the primary challenge lies in ensuring these assets have access to international markets and maintain high integrity.

Environment Minister Moh Jumhur Hidayat stated that the government is refining regulations to support the industry's growth. He emphasized the importance of establishing clear benefit-sharing mechanisms to ensure that the economic advantages of carbon projects reach the broader community.
