Indonesia targets global markets for cosmetics IKM exports

Indonesia is actively working to boost the exports of its small and medium cosmetics industries (IKM) by enhancing product quality, safety, and competitiveness in global markets. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita noted that the growing international trust in Indonesian cosmetics is driven by innovation and proven consumer benefits.

Cosmetics exports reached US$473.8 million in 2025, representing a 13.7 percent increase from US$416.8 million in 2024. The government aims to leverage this potential to strengthen production capacity and build local brands capable of international competition.

Data from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) as of July 2026 indicates there are 1,655 cosmetics industry players in Indonesia, with over 87 percent classified as IKM. As of August 2026, more than 370,000 cosmetics products have been registered with the agency. One successful example of this expansion is PT Follow Me Indonesia, which has entered the Papua New Guinea market with perfume and hair gel products.
