Indonesia targets mixed doubles medals at 2026 Asian Games
Indonesian mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto is encouraging his athletes to capitalize on the declining dominance of China in the mixed doubles sector ahead of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Widianto noted that the competitive landscape has become more unpredictable following the retirement of legendary pair Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong. He cited China's recent inability to secure world championship titles in 2025 and 2026, as well as reduced representation in major finals, as indicators of a shifting power dynamic.
For the 2026 Asian Games, Indonesia is looking to the pair Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah as a primary hope for a medal. Widianto expressed confidence in their abilities following their bronze medal performance at the 2026 BWF World Championships, though he cautioned the players against being pressured by their previous successes.
