Indonesia targets US$6 billion in furniture and handicraft exports by 2031
Indonesia's furniture and handicraft industries are aiming to significantly expand their global presence. The Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI) has set an export target of US$6 billion by 2031, up from the current level of approximately US$3 billion.
To reach this goal, industry leaders emphasize the need for improved access to capital. Abdul Sobur, Chairman of HIMKI, noted that businesses require affordable and rapid financing to cover production costs—including raw materials, labor, and certifications—before receiving payments from international buyers. Support from the Indonesia Export Financing Institution (LPEI) is cited as a critical factor for scaling production.
Simultaneously, the National Crafts Council (Dekranas) is working to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian crafts in the international market. Following 2023 data showing handicraft exports reached Rp20 trillion, Dekranas Chairman Tri Tito Karnavian highlighted the need to expand export reach through strategic steps and support from regional governments to enhance product quality and global competitiveness.
