Indonesia tax authority reports 23% revenue rise and large restitution burden

Indonesia's Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) said tax receipts grew 23% in the January‑June 2026 period, reaching an estimated Rp 1.061 trillion, about 45% of the 2026 budget target of Rp 2.357.7 trillion. The increase was driven by higher corporate income tax and deposit tax, reflecting continued strength in the domestic economy.

At the same time, tax restitutions surged, with the Jan‑Apr 2026 total hitting Rp 160 trillion—nine months’ worth of 2025 payments. The finance minister warned that the full‑year restitution outlay could reach Rp 500 trillion, raising concerns about possible irregularities within the tax administration.

Separately, the Ministry of Finance and the Supreme Court announced a recruitment drive for tax judges. Applications opened on 22 June 2026, targeting Indonesian citizens aged 45‑60 with at least ten years of tax‑related experience or prior judicial service. Candidates must demonstrate tax compliance and meet strict integrity criteria.
