Indonesia to Host Premier Division of FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026
FIFA officially launched the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, a new competition for Southeast Asian nations that will run from 23 September to 3 October 2026. Indonesia will co‑host the Premier Division, with all top‑tier matches scheduled in Jakarta. The draw placed Indonesia in Group A of the Premier Division together with India, Malaysia and Singapore, while Group B contains Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Pakistan. The tournament format omits semifinals; the group winners advance directly to the final and the runners‑up contest a third‑place match.
Ahead of Indonesia’s Group A fixture against Timor Leste on 31 July 2026 at Chonburi Stadium in Thailand, coach John Herdman warned his side not to underestimate the opponent, noting Timor Leste’s early tournament experience. Three players – Marselino Ferdinan, Ragnar Oratmangoen and Justin Hubner – travelled without the squad, leaving Indonesia with 23 available players. Timor Leste coach Ze Pedro emphasised that Indonesia’s strength lies in collective play rather than any single striker.
The competition has also attracted extensive media coverage. Broadcasts will be available simultaneously on free‑to‑air television and YouTube, broadening audience access across the region.
