Indonesia to Boost Cultural Tourism with New Air Routes

Indonesia's Culture Ministry, state airline Garuda Indonesia and travel platform InJourney are coordinating to expand air links to the country's cultural heritage sites. Culture Minister Fadli Zon said direct international flights to Yogyakarta, Jambi and other destinations are needed to maximise tourism revenue and showcase sites such as Borobudur, Prambanan, Plaosan, Sewu and Muara Jambi.

Garuda's president director Glenny H. Kairupan said the carrier is reviewing its route network, fleet use and potential new services to support these cultural hubs, while InJourney's Maya Watono highlighted Yogyakarta's potential as a primary gateway for cultural tourism after Bali. The partnership aims to strengthen cultural diplomacy and increase foreign‑exchange earnings from tourism.
