Indonesia to build three livestock processing plants to reduce imports

The Indonesian government plans to construct three processing plants for egg powder and meat powder to strengthen the national livestock ecosystem and reduce reliance on imports. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the project aims to stabilize prices and expand markets for local farmers. The development is expected to take between 1.5 to 2 years, with an estimated initial investment of approximately Rp200 billion to Rp250 billion per factory.

To address immediate challenges faced by poultry farmers, such as high feed costs and low egg selling prices, the Ministry is proposing several interventions. These include the distribution of approximately 5,000 tons of subsidized corn feed through the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program. Additionally, the government plans to provide corn seed assistance to farmers, with the resulting harvests to be managed by Perum Bulog to ensure stock availability during critical periods.
