Indonesia Ministry of Finance reports August 2026 fiscal results

Indonesia's Ministry of Finance reported several key fiscal developments through August 2026. Tax revenue reached Rp1,409 trillion, a 24.1 percent increase year-on-year, driven by growth in non-oil and gas income tax and VAT. Non-tax state revenue (PNBP) saw a significant 41.7 percent surge, reaching Rp435.1 trillion, bolstered by natural resource sectors and Bank Indonesia's surplus.

Despite these revenues, the state budget recorded a deficit of Rp240.1 trillion, or 0.93 percent of GDP. Government spending rose to Rp1,791.5 trillion, a 29 percent increase compared to the previous year. Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining the budget deficit below the 3 percent legal limit.

A major milestone was achieved with the full repayment of debt related to the 1997-1998 monetary crisis (BLBI), totaling approximately Rp640 trillion, utilizing Bank Indonesia's surplus. Additionally, the government announced that marketplace platforms will begin collecting income tax (PPh Pasal 22) from online sellers starting October 1, 2026, following a previous delay.
