Asian Boxing Championships in Jakarta sees Indian victories and Indonesia fielding 19 boxers
The U‑19 and U‑23 Asian Boxing Championships are being staged in Jakarta’s Basket Hall, GBK, from 5 July to 16 July 2026, with more than 300 competitors from about 20 Asian nations.
India opened its campaign with dominant wins on 5 July. World Boxing Futures Cup gold‑medallist Chandrika Pujari defeated Mongolia’s Lakham Tsendbaatar 5‑0 in the girls’ 51 kg bout, while silver‑medallist Joyshree Devi forced a Referee‑Stopped Contest against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Ning Hong in the girls’ 54 kg division. India’s U‑23 men will continue on 6 July, with Vishwanath Suresh (50 kg) versus Uzbekistan’s Amirbek Ismoilov, Ganga (55 kg) versus Mongolia, Sagar Jakhar (60 kg) versus Japan, and Hitesh (70 kg) versus Chinese Taipei.
As host, Indonesia entered a total of 19 boxers – ten in the U‑19 category and nine in U‑23 – aiming for medals. The Indonesian squad includes women such as Marion Manuesa Simorangkir (54 kg) who will face Japan’s Korin Kokufu, and men such as Fredik Suhendri Ampage (50 kg) against Singapore’s Hans Harris Mohamed Yusra. Day‑two action featured four Indonesian boxers competing, continuing the positive results recorded on day one.
Both nations view the tournament as a key platform for developing the next generation of Asian boxers.
