Indonesia to host Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and the Indonesia Gastronomy Network have announced the Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy (WIG) 2026 program. Themed ‘From Local Roots to Global Recognition’, the event will take place in Solo and Yogyakarta from September 26 to October 4, 2026, with additional activities continuing through December.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana noted that the 2026 program will have a broader scope than previous years, moving beyond the gourmet dining scene to showcase the full spectrum of Indonesian gastronomy, including local ingredients, traditions, and food philosophies. Key components include the launch of the Indonesia Gourmet Guide and Indonesia Local Eateries in September 2026, as well as the WIG Talks seminar series and an Artisan Market in Yogyakarta.

Data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) indicates that culinary and gastronomic activities are a major driver for the sector, with 58.34 percent of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in 2025 engaging in food-related tourism. The government aims to leverage this rich culinary heritage to reach a target of 16 million to 17 million foreign tourist arrivals this year.
