Indonesia to implement mandatory halal certification on October 18, 2026
The Indonesian government, through the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), has confirmed that mandatory halal certification will take effect on October 18, 2026, without postponement.
BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan stated that the government is currently drafting special provisions for specific conditions, particularly to support micro and small enterprises (UMK), imported products, raw materials, and consumer goods. These measures aim to ensure the implementation is orderly and does not disrupt business continuity.
Deputy Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Dradjad Hari Wibowo noted that technical regulations are expected to be finalized by October 11, 2026. These regulations will outline implementation stages, assistance for UMK, and certification requirements for various goods, including category A risk medical devices.
To date, the government has issued 4.4 million halal certificates to 3.47 million businesses, covering 14.68 million products. Indonesia's halal certification is currently recognized through Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA) with 39 countries. Support infrastructure includes over 2,000 halal auditors and approximately 108,000 halal product process assistants.
