Indonesia's first aircraft carrier to arrive in Jakarta on Sept. 17

Indonesia's first aircraft carrier, the Giuseppe Garibaldi, is currently en route to Jakarta and is expected to enter Indonesian waters around September 17, 2026. The vessel, which will be renamed KRI Gajah Mada upon arrival, is traveling from Italy and has recently passed through the Arabian Sea.

Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, stated that the carrier will dock in Colombo, Sri Lanka, before continuing its journey to Indonesia. During its transit through the Suez Canal and Red Sea, the ship has been escorted by Italian Navy warships.

Upon entering Indonesian maritime territory, the carrier will be met by at least two Indonesian Navy frigates and aircraft from the Navy Aviation Center. An aerial embarkation drill is planned during the final leg of the voyage. President Prabowo Subianto is expected to attend the official inauguration and flag-raising ceremony on September 25.
