Indonesia to Roll Out Free Electric Stoves to Households in 2027

The Indonesian government has earmarked a program in the 2027 state budget to provide free electric induction stoves and cooking accessories to eligible households. Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno said the initiative aims to cut the country's reliance on imported LPG and lower the energy subsidy burden, which he estimated at about Rp 390 trillion covering fuel and electricity.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will allocate roughly Rp 815.56 billion for the rollout, targeting appliances below 900 kVA. Officials noted that a study shows 63 % of current subsidies benefit higher‑income groups, prompting the transition. A similar program was previously halted in September 2022 after concerns over post‑COVID recovery, but the new plan is set to launch in 2027.
