Indonesia Tourism Ministry launches open‑trip sales mission to boost domestic travel

Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism held a sales mission in Yogyakarta to promote domestic tourism through affordable, flexible "open‑trip" packages. Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana described the pilot project as a way to offer lightweight, varied and competitive travel products, targeting schools, universities, community groups, government agencies, banks and corporations for outings and study tours.

The event gathered 16 tourism sellers and 45 prospective buyers in a tabletop business forum, aiming to expand networks and generate transactions. Statistics Indonesia reported 1.20 billion domestic trips in 2025, a 17.53 % rise from the previous year, with 523.22 million trips from January to May 2026 and 106.16 million trips in May 2026 alone.

Deputy Assistant for Domestic Tourism Marketing Erwita Dianti said the format encourages intensive discussions that can create sustainable partnerships and strengthen the industry's competitiveness.
