Indonesia tourism sector employs 25.91 million people in 2025

Indonesia's tourism sector employed 25.91 million people throughout 2025, the highest figure in the last decade. According to Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, this employment level ranks third only to the agriculture and trade sectors.

The industry generated US$18.27 billion (approximately Rp305.47 trillion) in foreign exchange during 2025, representing a 9.41 percent increase from the previous year. This growth spans various ecosystems, including hotels, restaurants, travel services, transportation, and the creative economy.

Tourism investment reached Rp73.6 trillion in 2025, a 56.5 percent increase compared to 2024. The government is now focusing on decentralizing these investments, as more than 50 percent are currently concentrated in Jakarta and Bali. To achieve more equitable economic benefits, the government plans to optimize Special Economic Zones (KEK), improve flight connectivity, and promote investment in strategic international markets such as Abu Dhabi, Osaka, Seoul, and Beijing.
