Indonesia tourism sector shows growth in H1 2026
Indonesia's tourism sector demonstrated strong growth and resilience during the first half of 2026. International tourist arrivals reached 7.45 million, a 5.71% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth was driven largely by Asian markets, with visitors from other parts of Asia increasing by nearly 10%, Southeast Asia by 8.22%, and Oceania by 6.60%.
Tourism investment in the country reached Rp39.68 trillion during this period, marking a 16.64% increase from the previous year. Foreign direct investment (PMA) surged by 37% to Rp12.19 trillion, while domestic investment (PMDN) grew by 9.39% to Rp27.48 trillion. Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana noted that these investments help create jobs, strengthen local supply chains, and establish new economic growth centers.
Domestic tourism also remained active, with 630.41 million local trips recorded, representing a 2.71% growth. Additionally, the average expenditure per international visitor rose by 6.36% to approximately $1,313. The Minister attributed these successes to adaptive strategies, including market pivoting and enhanced destination quality.
