Indonesia transfers former Pati regent Sudewo to Semarang prison ahead of corruption trial

Indonesia's anti‑corruption agency (KPK) has moved the corruption case files against former Pati regent Sudewo to the State Prosecutor's Office, allowing the charges to proceed to trial at the Semarang Corruption Court. The two dossiers involve alleged railway‑project bribery and extortion of village‑official candidates while Sudewo was regent.

KPK also relocated Sudewo and three other suspects from its Red‑White Building detention facility to a Class I prison in Semarang on 5 June 2026, citing procedural rules for the upcoming court hearings. The prosecutor is expected to finalize indictment documents within about two weeks.

These steps clear the way for the first courtroom appearance of Sudewo on charges of extortion and gratification linked to the DJKA railway project and local village elections.
