Indonesia transportation Minister addresses NTT earthquake and Kalimantan fire impacts

Indonesian Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi has addressed two separate environmental and geological challenges affecting regional logistics and travel.

In Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), following recent earthquake activity, the Minister confirmed that transportation infrastructure remains functional for logistics and aid distribution. While some terminal facilities sustained minor damage, airports and seaports have not experienced significant impacts. Although landslides have blocked certain land routes on Flores Island, the government is utilizing sea transport to ensure aid reaches affected areas. Emergency funds are being deployed to repair damaged terminals.

Simultaneously, in Kalimantan, forest and land fires (karhutla) have severely impacted air travel. Dudy reported that several flights in West Kalimantan have been canceled due to thick smoke reducing visibility. The haze has also caused significant air quality issues, leading to the temporary closure of schools in both Kalimantan and parts of Malaysia. The Ministry of Transportation has advised airlines to closely monitor weather and visibility updates from BMKG.
